Moving your book club without losing the group
The books are the easy part. The members are the whole problem, and no platform will hand them over. Here is what genuinely moves, what you have to rebuild, and the order that makes it painless.

What you can actually take with you
Less than you would hope, and the reason is worth knowing before you plan the move. Goodreads exports your personal library and nothing social: group membership, discussion threads and friends are not in the file and never have been. Fable has no official export at all. Bookclubs.com is the exception, with a member list export, though it sits behind their paid tier.
- So for most hosts the honest answer is that the club data does not transfer. What transfers is you, the reading list, and whichever members choose to follow.
- That sounds worse than it is. A book club is twelve people in a group chat, not a database. The chat is the asset, and you already have it.
Do it in this order
Rebuild the reading list first, before you tell anyone. A club that opens with four years of past picks in it looks like the same club. A club that opens empty looks like starting over, and that is what makes people drift.
Then set the current read, with the dates you already agreed. The first thing a member sees should be the thing they are actually reading this month.
Then send one link. Not invitations one username at a time, one link you paste into the chat where the group already talks. Anyone who follows it joins; anyone who does not is not lost, because the chat still exists.
Do not try to move the archive of past discussion. Nobody rereads it, no platform exports it, and waiting until you can is how a move stalls for a year.
What to check before you pick somewhere
Whether a member has to accept. If adding a username puts somebody in a private group with no notice, that is a group anyone can be dragged into.
Whether discussion is gated by progress. The reason book club talk moves to a chat app is that a thread about chapter twenty spoils the person on chapter three, and most tools have no answer for it.
Whether you can seed the history. If there is no way to record what the club already read, the move costs you the thing that made it a club rather than a list of titles.
Whether you can get out again. The reason you are reading this is that somebody else made leaving hard.

- Can I import my book club members from Goodreads?
- No, and neither can anyone else. Goodreads does not export group membership at all, only your personal library. The practical route is a link in whatever chat your club already uses.
- What about Fable or Bookclubs.com?
- Fable has no official export. Bookclubs.com does export a member list, but on their paid tier, and it is a list of email addresses rather than accounts. Voluta invites by link or by username rather than by email, so nobody gets mail they did not ask for.
- Will I lose our past discussions?
- Yes, wherever you move. No book club platform exports threads. What you can keep is the reading list, which is the part people actually refer back to.
- Do members need to pay?

- How big can a club be?
